Paul O'Reilly Announces First Extended Squad

Southern United Head Coach Paul O'Reilly has announced an extended squad of homebased players for the coming 2016/ 2017 National League season.

O'Reilly has been busy viewing players in action across the region since June, taking in league and Chatham Cup matches in Dunedin, Timaru, Oamaru, Invercargill and Queenstown. The extended squad features several new faces from throughout the region as well as a number of youth players who are still eligible to play in the Southern United Youth team (U19s) this season.  They will be coming into the club to compete for places alongside a number of returning players with previous National League experience with Southern United. The extended squad will assemble on Wednesday, Sept 7th to begin preparations.

In addition to the extended squad named, over the coming weeks the new head coach will be assessing a group of trialists, whilst also confirming availability of some players who currently have work, family and travel commitments pending. O'Reilly has been strong in his view that players playing with Southern United should be based in the region while representing the club, as well as highlighting the opportunity for new players to break into the squad and make a positive impact in the coming season.

As the Southern United National Youth League squad trials are also coming soon on Sept 10th and 17th it is busy period for the club as they head into a new National league season.
